Step 2.) Set up the tracking app

Below please find the instructions on how to use the tracking app.

Before proceeding to Step 3) you will need to to complete the following:

Here are some extra instructions on the app they you may decide (or need) to perform:

Install and Open the App

  1. On your Mobile Device, please go to Play Store (Android device) or Apple store (Apple device).
  2. Then search for FollowMee and select it.
  3. (On Android) You should be able to see the following screen:
    please Install.
  4. After the app is installed, the following screen should appear:
    press Open.
  5. The app will open and ask you to access your location:
    please press ALLOW.
  6. You should be able to see the following screen:

Configure the App (getting the unique id)

  1. On the screen:
    please press SETTINGS.
  2. Then you should see the following Permission dialog:
    This allows us to assign a unique id to your device. Please press OK.
  3. Then you will be asked if the app can manage your phone calls:
    You can either Allow or Deny.
  4. Now the following screen should appear:
    The device name may be different, depending on the default name of your device.
  5. Now please press the down arrow next to Login Token. Now you should see the following:
  6. Please enter the TOKEN that you received by email after completing Step 1.) (Sign up for Project) and press APPLY.
  7. You should be able to see the following screen:
    Please press SAVE.
  8. This screen will appear now:
    Please press START.
  9. If there are any battery optimisation please press ok, and wait for the following screen to appear:
  10. Now go to SETTINGS and write down your Device ID (you will need in for the SURVEY LOGIN):
  11. Now in the form below please provide us with your Device ID and your Portsmouth email and then click Finish.
  12. After that you can close the window of the app, it will be running in the background. Please now go to Step 3) The First Survey.

Fix Battery Optimization

Only if you experienced it

  1. When seeing the following screen (you can identify Problem reported battery optimized)
    Please press red button MENU. If the MENU button is not highlighted in red then you don't have an issue with battery optimization.
  2. You will see the following:
    Please press the red button IGNORE BATTERY OPTIMIZATION.
  3. In the Battery optimisation settings (this may be different depending on the version of your Android) screen select All apps.
  4. Then scroll down on the list to find FollowMee and select it.
  5. The following dialog pops up
    please select Don't optimise.
  6. Then press Done

How to stop the APP

If you wish to stop being tracked proceed with the instructions below to stop the app.

  1. Perform these instructions only if you wish to stop the app from tracking your mobile.
  2. When seeing the following screen:
    please press STOP button.
  3. Then confirm that you wish to stop by pressing OK:
  4. After a few seconds you should see the log that FollowMee has stopped:
